Blog Entry 16: Depth

I'm working on taking photos with more depth, not just have one-dimensional images like the pictures I took of fall in Eugene. This is a weak attempt but I often find the photos I take with different layers of detail fail to show the background in any meaningful way. I'm still working on this skill..

  1. What kind of camera are you shooting with?

If it has an adjustable aperture, it's not so hard to have a lot of depth of field. If it's a point and shoot, that's a little more difficult.

One trick is to take two photos, one focused on the foreground and one focused on the background. Then you can use Photoshop to combine the two images. Though it's important that the camera not move much between exposures, so a tripod shot with a cable is best.
